I love letting my students use jingle bells during the month of December. Since we only use them one time during the year, the kids get really excited when I bring the jingle bells out. These festive songs are also great for the younger kiddos to perform at winter programs. Let’s dive in to my top 5 favorite jingle bell songs for kids!
First things first, which jingle bells should I use?
I love these wrist band jingle bells- especially if you’re going to be using them for a winter program with younger kids. If the jingle bells are attached to their wrist, the instruments are less likely to be thrown across the stage. (And, yes, I am speaking from experience….)
You can also have students create their own jingle bell wristbands with pipe cleaners and jingle bells like these:
1. Christmas Time
This energetic jingle bell song is a life-saver for those days right before Winter Break. There’s plenty of movement to get all their wiggles out!
2. Jingle Jingle Little Bell
I love using this calming jingle bell song at the end of class. I’ve found this one is very successful to use with younger kids since they already know the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle”. Also, you can use this song to teach opposites such as high and low. And the movements are simple and cute.
3. Sleigh Ride
Sleigh Ride is one of my all-time favorite Christmas sing-alongs. It’s fun to hand out the jingle bells and then have students pretend that they’re on an actual sleigh ride.
4. Jingle Bell Rock
I love using this song for steady beat practice with my students, since it has a medium (moderato) tempo. First, I have student’s get into a circle. Then I hand out one jingle bell and have students pass it on the steady beat.
5. Everybody Sing (Jingle Jangle)
I absolutely love this new song, “Everybody Sing” created by Charissa Duncanson, who’s a fellow music teacher. It’s a great alternative to the classic song “Jingle Bells”, which has a disconcerting history.
