I am excited to share this simple and fun Winter Celebrations Alphabet Program with you! If you’re like me, you want the Winter program to be as simple yet quality as possible. In my first few years teaching, I learned that I didn’t need to have an elaborate Winter program for it to be special. I wanted a program that had the ability to include all ages and all campus performance groups. And I also wanted the program to have a theme that could incorporate a variety of Winter Celebrations such as Christmas, Las Posadas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. So that’s where the Alphabet theme came in! Since this program has worked out so well for me and my students, I wanted to share with you some tips on how you can use this program.
In this Winter Program, you’ll make your way through all the letters of the alphabet, with a festive description for each letter! of the letters coincide with a song, such as “C is for Carol of the Bells.” After a student reads that into the microphone, your performance group will sing the song! You can have one student reading all of the letters and festive descriptions into the microphone, or you can choose a different student for each letter! It depends on how many students you are wanting to involve. You can use any age range from Pre-K through 5th grade, but I usually include the lower grades (Pre-K through 1st grade) and then any of the performance groups on campus (Choir, Guitar Club, Dance team, etc.)
One year I bought some Wintery paper plates, and drew a letter of the alphabet on each plate. Then I printed out the words the students would be reading, such as “H is for Hanukkah-the “Festival of Lights” and glued it to the back of the plate. On the top of the plate, I added an ornament hanger. Then have students hang them up on a Christmas tree after they read their part. You will definitely need an adult helping the kiddos figure out where to go, but it turned out pretty cute!
The beauty of this program is that you can include any song you want to to coincide with the letters of the alphabet. For the letter “D” I used “I have a little Dreidel”, for the letter “J” I used “Jingle, Jingle Little Bell” and for the letter “K” I used “O Kwanzaa”! In this Winter Alphabet Program, I’ve included an editable version so that you can truly customize it and make it your own! If you’d like to purchase this program, just click on the images below. There are links to songs & practice tracks, links to some movement/dances, and links to accompaniment tracks for each song. This Winter program is meant to be simple and flexible. That’s how I roll. Who needs more stress during the holiday season? Not me!!!
I’d love to know how you end up using this program with your students and I hope your holiday season is off to a great start. Remember to keep things simple, enjoy the little moments and stay present with your peeps!
