Welcome to my Simple Music Teaching blog!
The goal with this blog is to make teaching music as simple as possible. I know that teaching music, and teaching in general, will never be a piece of cake. But I’m hoping that my lesson ideas, resources and nuggets of wisdom will help ease the task of lesson planning. That way you have more time to fully live into your beautifully dynamic and exciting life outside of teaching. Teaching can be extremely rewarding, but equally as draining and stress-inducing. Often times, teachers are overworked with way less time for lesson planning than we actually need. So kick off your shoes, and relax. I am here to help you save time, and prevent you from having to create lessons from scratch. I believe that every teacher deserves to have time to cultivate their lives outside of teaching to include all of their passions and hobbies. Also, If you are a stay at home mom or dad, or home-school teacher, Simple Music Teaching will offer you ideas about songs and activities to do with your kiddos at home!
I received a BA in music education from McMurry University, and have been teaching music to Pre-k through 5th graders for five years in the Dallas Independent School District to Title I, at-risk students. I am a music teacher who loves making music relevant and fun for all students. I enjoy presenting difficult concepts in simple, uncomplicated ways. I use a mixture of methods including, but not limited to- Kodaly, Orff, and Music as a Second Language- all with a heavy emphasis on technology. I also believe in using as little paper as possible! #savethetrees
I spend most of my time outside of work with my husband, exercising and cuddling with my blue heeler puppy, catching up with friends and family, planning vacations, running, and calming my anxieties with yoga and reading. I also enjoy playing gigs and songwriting.
I am excited to be on this journey of blogging and building a community of music teachers who are aiming at simplicity and creating more time for ourselves. And for whoever else that decides to stop by this site, I’m excited to journey with you as well. I hope you are finding peace, rest, and wholeness today.
